The Breast Views Blog: Campaign for Real Beauty

This from DOVE the soap people.Real Women Have Real Curves.

Hmmmmm. I'm thinking. Maybe they could drop the word 'real'.

Sue,
there is a lot in that website, but unfortunately I could not find that precise quote. It is actually a complex message. It does stress that beauty is not a simple concept, but somehow it gets lost in a whole lot of distracting themes. Now why would a cosmetic manufacturer be promoting self estemm? Which sells more soap, poor self esteem or high self esteem? So there is good and bad in there, and I wonder if the real message is while you feel good you will subliminally take in the make-up messages. We know companies don't do things for free.

Fortunately your and our messages are fairly simple, that all wpeople are beautiful, and that beauty in people as opposed to objects is primarily within. Given the misery of teen age children, learning about self esteem, body image and transcendent values is not bad, per se.
