The Breast Views Blog: Toxic Perfume

Before you give your honey pie your Christmas wish list this year, you might want to check to see if the brand of perfume you've been coveting gives more BANG for your buck than you want.

EWG.org have rated 125 brands of popular perfume on a scale that ranges between low, medium and high concern. The criteria used for the rating looks at ingredients that are known or probable carcinogens, if ingredients have had any testing on anything prior to you - you know - stuff that you didn't realize you needed to be careful about.

This link takes you directly to the perfume department. The general site also covers pretty much all categories of beauty care products in the same way.

The Breast Views Blog: U.S. Ends Ban on Silicone Breast Implants - New York Times

The big boob story of the week sees silicone breast implants back on the shelf and implant makers stocks climbing fast. Ah yes, we are so very good at looking out for each other's best interests.

The following story comes by way of the New York Times. I particularly like this quote.

“For us, it’s a triumph of science,” said Dr. Richard A. D’Amico, president-elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “We’ve always felt that the science would bear out the use of the implants.”

I guess if science wasn't so 'experimental', I find relief in this notion.

The Breast Views Blog: Silicone Breast Implants

According to a story in Ms. Magazine, "the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ended a 14-year ban of silicone gel-filled breast implants, even as it acknowledged side effects including "the hardening of the area around the implant, breast pain, change in nipple sensation, implant rupture, and the need for additional surgery".

Sounds fun. Where do I sign up?

The Breast Views Blog: Vote for Breast Cancer Prevention

This message from: Breast Cancer Action.

Today is Election Day in the U.S. As you go to the polls, consider this: Which candidates will make breast cancer prevention a priority?

Every month, we ask you to take action on legislation in the interest of eliminating the environmental causes of breast cancer. The representatives you elect today will hold the power to author and champion legislation for vital prevention programs in the years ahead.

Today we ask you to cast a vote for your health, your children's health and the quarter of a million American women who will receive a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2007.
