With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, everyone is on the mammogram band wagon.
I think it's critical to point out that mammograms do not PREVENT breast cancer. Rather it is a DETECTION tool that comes with it's own set of hazard. According to this story, the outcome of having mammograms isn't always pretty.
Researchers found that "for every 2,000 women invited to have mammograms over a 10-year period, one would have their life prolonged but 10 would endure potentially devastating and unnecessary treatment."
